Zcash’s Next Security Milestone Could Fuel Bullish Hopes for ZEC

Zcash’s next security milestone could fuel bullish hopes for ZEC. Developers at Zakura, a Zcash node software team, are targeting January 2027 for quantum-resistant payment tools.

Reports on the plan say the first phase would protect transparent transactions. Traders now ask what that means for price.

What Is Zcash Planning?

The team plans to add post-quantum signature opcodes. These use hash-based signatures.

They aim to stop a future quantum computer from deriving private keys from public data.

About 11.96 million of the 16.98 million ZEC in circulation sat in the transparent pool on 8 October. That is roughly 70% of supply.

Quantum risk is a rising theme, and TechGaged reports that more than $2.5 trillion in crypto is exposed to quantum attacks.

What Will January Not Cover?

The target is a development goal, not a confirmed release. No network activation date is set.

The first phase also leaves shielded payments out. Those hide senders, recipients, and amounts, and they need separate protections.

Critics call the effort incomplete for that reason. Other chains face similar gaps, as TechGaged’s quantum vulnerability index shows.

ZEC Slides 11.8% Before the Target

At about 10:55 UTC on 13 October 2026, ZEC traded at $1,201.25. That is down 11.8% over seven days. The BTC pair stood at 0.01443212. The seven-day chart opens near $1,370 on 7 October.

Price slid below $1,330 on 8 October, then dropped sharply to a low near $1,120 early on 9 October. A rebound followed, and ZEC held near $1,220 through 11 October.

A rally on 12 October pushed price to a peak near $1,340. Sellers returned fast. ZEC fell to about $1,150 on 13 October before recovering to the current level.

Bitcoin developers face the same threat, and Bitcoin Core developers push an emergency plan as the quantum threat escalates.

What $2,000 Would Take

A move to $2,000 needs a gain of about 66.5% from $1,201.25. A security upgrade is one possible driver. It is not a guarantee.

Price also depends on market mood, demand, and the timing of the rollout. Quantum risk is still a future threat, but markets like clear deadlines. January 2027 gives ZEC one.
