Bitcoin Whales Defy Price Volatility as Mid-Sized Wallets Reach Record Levels
Bitcoin’s latest price swings have not stopped a key group of holders from expanding.
According to Santiment data, the number of wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 BTC has reached a record 20,338.

The increase has continued since mid-July, suggesting that substantial holders remain active despite uncertainty in the broader market.
Accumulation Continues Through the Noise
Bitcoin is trading near $81,970, down 1.3% over the past seven days. Recent price action has been uneven, with sharp dips and recoveries, including a move toward $80,000 before a rebound.
Yet the number of wallets holding 10–10,000 BTC has continued to rise. This divergence between price volatility and wallet growth suggests that some holders may be accumulating through market pullbacks rather than reducing their exposure.
The trend is worth monitoring alongside other on-chain indicators. Santiment’s Bitcoin-related on-chain data can help track changes in holder behavior, although wallet counts alone cannot confirm how much Bitcoin has been purchased or whether every address represents a separate investor.
Why This Cohort Matters
Wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 BTC occupy a broad range of holdings. The group can include substantial individual investors, funds, businesses, and other entities. Its growth may therefore offer insight into how larger market participants are positioning themselves.
However, wallet numbers require careful interpretation. A single investor may control multiple addresses, while exchange wallets and custodial services may hold Bitcoin for many customers. An increase in addresses does not necessarily mean the same number of independent investors are accumulating.
Even with that limitation, the reported record provides a useful data point when assessed alongside exchange balances, trading activity, and other measures of supply distribution.
TechGaged has explored how on-chain indicators can help explain market behavior beyond short-term price movements.
A Signal Worth Watching
Bitcoin remains near $82,000 after a volatile stretch, while the reported number of wallets in the 10–10,000 BTC range has climbed to 20,338. The combination suggests that the price weakness has not been accompanied by a decline in this particular wallet count.

If the trend continues alongside stronger demand and sustained buying, it could support a more constructive view of Bitcoin’s medium-term outlook. If price weakens further despite continued wallet growth, however, the data would suggest that accumulation alone is not enough to overcome broader selling pressure.

For now, the record is a noteworthy on-chain development, not a guarantee of an imminent rally. The key question is whether the growth in substantial wallets will eventually be matched by stronger spot demand and a sustained recovery in Bitcoin’s price.
