Should you sell Bitcoin at $100K? The question sounds simple, but the number carries a lot of weight. $100K is a round figure that traders watch closely.
It sits about 21.4% above today’s price of $82,405. It is also about 21% below Bitcoin’s record high near $126,000, set in October 2025. Smart analysts disagree on what happens next.
The Case for Holding Past $100K
Bulls point to steady demand. Bitwise’s Ryan Rasmussen sees Bitcoin ending the year potentially above $100K.
He cites ETF demand, corporate buying, hard-asset interest, and clearer rules. On-chain data adds support. Santiment counts a record 20,338 wallets holding 10 to 10K BTC.
Wallet counts can rise through splits, so the signal is not proof of new buying. Corporate demand continues too, as Strategy added 250 BTC recently.
The Case for Selling Near $100K
Bears point to resistance and rates. Bitcoin failed near $87,400 three times since September. The Fed meets on 28 October, and CME FedWatch odds show a live chance of a hike.

Bitcoin was already facing pressure, as it defies two macro headwinds from the dollar and Treasury yields.
Fund demand is also weaker, since Bitcoin ETF inflows collapsed 88% in early October. LO:TECH’s base case is a $85K to $95K range into year-end. It sees $100K only if a December hike turns into a pause.
What Does the Weekly Chart Say?
At 10:27 UTC on 19 October 2026, Bitcoin traded at $82,405.09. That is up 0.51%, or $415.35, on the weekly BTCUSD chart.
The Parabolic SAR dots sit below price, which keeps the trend bullish. The MACD line reads 2,475.95, well above its signal line at 536.15.

The histogram reads 1,939.80, but its bars have started to shrink from their peak. Momentum is positive, though it is cooling. Price also sits above $80,000 and still far from $100K.
Questions to Settle Before the Price Does
Time horizon matters. So do tax rules, risk limits, and how much of a portfolio Bitcoin makes up. Some investors set rules in advance, such as selling in stages or keeping a core position.
Others hold through any price. Bulls and bears both have evidence, and the market has not picked a winner yet. The path to $100K will answer more than any forecast.
